Arrival in Tamanrasset and welcome at the airport. Visit of the town for any shopping, then departure. Lunch on the way. We continue from one wadi to the next — Tin Amzi, Zazer — through acacia landscapes. Camp.
We gradually leave this mountainous, volcanic landscape, following wadi beds across vast plains. Little by little we enter the Tassili and reach Tin Akachker: a fabulous landscape of sand mountains rising into the open sky. Bivouac and overnight.
In the morning we continue to Tagrera, a true natural museum of rocks of all shapes mixed with sand dunes. Lunch there or at Immeskor, once inhabited by hunters and herders as shown by engravings and pottery shards. We then cross the great reg to our bivouac at Tahaggart, a curious formation of needle-shaped mountains sculpted by the sand. An enchanted world with an impressive sunset. Bivouac and overnight.
We head to Youf Aghlal with its soft light, its engravings and the paintings of Tilenfazza, witnesses of a civilisation from another age. Lunch in a cave. Early in the afternoon we reach Youf Ahakit and its sand dunes, where we spend the night.
From Youf Ahakit we go up the Tin Tarabine wadi, stopping to see the engravings, especially Tiblist. We gradually approach the Hoggar: crossing of the Foutesse wadi and its acacias, then the village of In Dalag with its huts and small gardens. A winding track takes us to the foot of the Tamekrest waterfall to enjoy its water. Bivouac.
We set course for the Assekrem in the heart of the Atakor massif. The Hoggar: a volcanic, mysterious land of grandiose panoramas of peaks and needles. After crossing this lunar landscape we reach the Assekrem pass at 2,726 m. Visit of Father de Foucauld's hermitage and one of the most beautiful sunsets in the region. Night at the refuge.
A sunrise of indescribable beauty. On the way back, stop at Ahounahamt (1,700 m) with a splendid view over the Hoggar range. Arrival in Tamanrasset late afternoon. Night at the hotel, free time in town.
Transfer to the airport and flight to Algiers and Europe.
