Welcome at the airport and transfer to Tamanrasset. After some shopping we meet our Tuareg guides and the camel caravan at Tezalayen. First contact with our camels, the caravan gets ready: off we go! We pass Immlaoulaoune mountain range and reach Takacharouat. Overnight there.
At sunrise our guides go looking for their camels — a chance for lovely morning photos. View of the Adrar Haggaren and the magnificent Adaouda peak, with Mount Ahleheque and its lonely crater in the distance. At noon we reach the Igunaouene wadi with its stones and giraffe engravings. On to Azarnane, a Tuareg village. Overnight there.
The camels wake us at dawn; the guides have already lit the fire. After breakfast the camels are loaded. We pass near Mount Haouhaouen, round and grey, with a grandiose view over all the mountains. We follow the wadi bed to Tagleft, where we camp.
Early in the morning we bring back the camels with the guides. Water is drawn from a hole called an abankor. We fill our flasks and guerbas (goatskins) for a new day. Arrival at Afilale and its giant potholes, picnic there. We pass Mount Hadadou and reach Taguerguist. Overnight there.
We approach the summits of Taguerguite and Taguenayen, then gradually go up the wadi to the level of Tizouag. Walk and night on site.
A day devoted to a beautiful walk in the heart of the Atakor. Arrival on the Assekrem plateau and visit of Father de Foucauld's hermitage. A view unique in the world over the whole Atakor range: Tizouyag, Saouinane, Hadadou, Tahat and Illamene. Sunset, then overnight there.
With the caravan formed, we go down into the Enamré wadi, with some engravings to see. In the distance appear the summits of Tridelene and Oul-Ekamkamene. We continue to the Azigue wadi. Overnight there.
It is with regret that we leave these places and their peaks. Our eyes never tire of these fabulous, grandiose landscapes; the wadis and plains we cross are full of curiosities. In the distance we see the solitary Mount Akar-Akar. Overnight there.
At sunrise the guides have already located their camels. Breakfast and departure of the caravan. We cross the great Ataouel plateau with a view of Akar-Akar. Arrival at Haounahmat, with a beautiful view from above over Hananer. Bivouac in the wadi.
We leave our bivouac. Along the Tihin-Assouad track our eyes rest on the Adaouda peak and the Adrar Haggaren range. Arrival in the Tamanrasset wadi, picnic under the acacias. Transfer to the hotel and free time in town.
